Joyce Ward is the Director of Education and Outreach programs for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She works across the Agency to centralize the education programs of the USPTO and to develop appropriate metrics for use in evaluating and determining the effectiveness of USPTO education and outreach programming, particularly as it relates to K-20 students and educators. Joyce is also tasked with expanding the reach of the USPTO’s education and outreach programs to provide educators and students with USPTO learning experiences designed to integrate knowledge of innovation, creativity and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as it relates to intellectual property.
Prior to her current position she served as the Director of Program Support and Intellectual Property for the National Inventors Hall of Fame. From 1994 to 2002, Joyce worked for the USPTO as a Trademark Examining Attorney and later as an Education Specialist in the Office of Public Affairs. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC.
